The Athearn ATH3871 is an N scale model of the NACC 50-foot box car. This model features three road numbers, etched metal stirrup steps, a detailed molded underframe, Pullman Standard or Superior plug doors, and a Pullman Standard or Stanray (Superior) roof to match the prototype. It comes with N-scale 70 ton trucks, machined 33-inch metal wheels, and body-mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers. The car is weighted for optimum performance and has a minimum radius of 9 ¾ inches. In the 1960s, the North American Car Corporation designed and built this type of 50-foot outside post, insulated, plug door box car. Many railroads used these cars, often leased to private shippers. The NACC cars had complex and colorful paint schemes, and at the time of their construction, general leasing, billboard paint schemes, and modern freight handling techniques were still about a decade away.

Using this Athearn N scale box car model is easy. You can place it on your N scale train track and couple it with other cars in your train set. Just make sure the track has a radius of at least 9 ¾ inches to avoid any derailment. When handling the car, be gentle with the etched metal stirrup steps and the body-mounted couplers as they are delicate. For maintenance, you can use a soft brush to clean the wheels and the body of the car regularly. Keep it in a dry and dust - free place when not in use to maintain its appearance and performance. If you notice any loose parts, you can use a small amount of glue to fix them, but be careful not to get glue on the moving parts.
