The Athearn ATH73741 is an amazing HO scale model train. It represents the SD40 locomotive of the C&O Chesapeake & Ohio, numbered #7459, and comes with DCC and sound features. In 1966, EMD delivered the first of five orders of SD40s to the C&O railroad. These were the most powerful units at that time, weighing 394,000 pounds each and capable of 82,100 lbs. of continuous tractive effort at 11.1 mph. Units 7450 - 7469, like the one here, were in the '35 style' paint scheme with yellow noses and small side initials. The SD40 was part of EMD's 1966 locomotive catalog update, powered by the new 645 diesel engine with 3,000 hp from a turbocharged V16. Many were built for American, Canadian, and Mexican railroads. This model has great features such as LED lighting, photo - etched stainless steel windshield wipers, and separately applied wire grab irons. Sound - equipped models have an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound and a single cube speaker for great sound quality.

Using your Athearn ATH73741 HO scale model train is easy. First, make sure you have the right power source for either DC or DCC operation. If you're using the sound - equipped model, you can enjoy the engine, horn, and bell sounds in DC, but more functions are available in DCC mode. When setting up your track, keep in mind the minimum radius of 18 inches, but a 22 - inch radius is recommended for better operation. To keep your model in good condition, store it in the interior plastic blister when not in use. Clean the model gently with a soft cloth to remove dust. Check the wheels and gears regularly for any signs of wear. If you want to change some functions, you can refer to the CV chart included in the box. And remember, if you're programming a multiple - unit lashup, only the lead unit's horn, bell, and lights need to be set up.
