This Atlas model represents a Phase 1 GE U30C locomotive, Conrail #6536 in blue and white color scheme, available in HO scale with DCC and sound features. The General Electric U30C, launched in 1966, replaced the U28C and offered 200 more horsepower, competing well with EMD’s SD40. It was very popular, selling 600 units in 10 years. The Phase 1 model has a constant - width long hood and unique radiator intake arrangements. Atlas also offers later Phase 2 and 3 models. This new model features all - new tooling, etched metal grilles, various cab and light variations, newly tooled Adirondack truck sideframes, separately applied details, and factory - installed metal knuckle couplers. It comes in both DC and sound versions. The Gold Series models with ESU sound support all DCC programming modes, have flexible function key mapping, follow NMRA DCC standards, and offer over 20 sound effects. Note that on a DC layout, there are some operation limitations as described.

Using this Atlas HO scale locomotive is quite straightforward. If you're using it on a DCC layout, it supports all DCC - programming modes. You can map the function keys from F0 to F28 according to your needs. For the sound version, enjoy over 20 sound effects like engine start - up and shutdown. On an analog (DC) layout, remember that the Atlas Quantum Engineer won't operate a Gold Series locomotive with a LokSound Select decoder. Also, a DCC and sound - equipped locomotive can't be grouped with a non - DCC - and - sound locomotive. Maintenance is simple. Keep it clean from dust and debris. You can use a soft brush to gently clean the locomotive and its parts. Store it in a dry place to prevent any corrosion or damage. And due to the high starting voltage for the sound system, don't try to MU a non - sound - equipped loco in DC mode.
