Relive the golden age of model railroading with our easy-to-build 40’ 70-Ton 4-Bay Open Hopper. Just grab a Phillips screwdriver, some glue, and spend a few minutes assembling. Our Kit Classics™ freight cars are great for passing on this classic tradition to the next generation of model railroaders. This ScaleTrains kit features an all-new roadname, multiple road numbers, and finely cast details like stirrup steps, end ladders, and grab irons. It has a molded interior with rivets and side wall bracing, a separately applied handbrake wheel, and one-piece detailed Bettendorf trucks. The 33” machined metal wheels with accurately profiled .110” wide wheel tread ensure smooth operation. It comes with plastic semi-scale Type E knuckle couplers, Kadee compatible, and a body-mounted coupler box for Kadee whisker couplers. Weighted to industry standards, it operates on Code 70, 83, and 100 rail. The packaging safely stores the assembled model, and it has a minimum radius of 18”. (Picture may show a different road number.) The 70 Ton self-clearing hopper car was designed in 1926 by the Car Construction Committee of the American Railroad Association (ARA), sharing features with the 50 Ton car. Over ten thousand were built for 7 railroads from 1926 - 1930, many lasting into the 1960s and finding second-hand owners.

Using this model railroad hopper kit is a breeze. First, gather a Phillips screwdriver and some glue. Then, follow the simple assembly steps. It won't take you long to put it together. When you're done, your hopper car is ready to run on Code 70, 83, or 100 rail. Just make sure the track has a minimum radius of 18 inches. As for maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft brush to remove dust. Store it in the provided packaging when not in use to keep it safe. And be careful with the couplers and small parts, as they can be delicate. If you want to use Kadee whisker couplers, the body-mounted coupler box can accept them easily.
