PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
In 1984, EMD introduced the first four SD60 demonstrator locomotives. In 2010, NS SD60 #6653 started the SD60E Capital Rebuild Program for Norfolk Southern. Mechanically, the prime mover was rebuilt to 710G3B specs and rerated to 4,000 horsepower. A new motor - driven compressor was installed, along with new electrical cabinets, wiring, and EM2000 microprocessor controls. A new split - cooling system helps meet Tier 0+ emission requirements and reduces fuel consumption. Externally, a new cab was installed for better crash protection and a more spacious work environment. The first unit entered service in 2010, and more followed over the years.

As for maintenance, keep it clean by gently wiping it with a soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals. Periodically check the wheels and couplers for any signs of wear.
