Our Kit Classics™ freight cars are ideal for passing on this timeless tradition to the next generation of model railroaders. The product features an all-new roadname, multiple road numbers, finely cast stirrup steps, end ladders, grab irons, underbody and brake system. It has a molded interior with rivets and side wall bracing, a separately applied handbrake wheel, one-piece detailed Bettendorf trucks, 33” machined metal wheels with an accurately profiled .110” wide wheel tread. The plastic semi-scale Type E knuckle couplers are Kadee compatible, and the body-mounted coupler box can accept Kadee whisker couplers. It's weighted to industry standards, operates on Code 70, 83 and 100 rail, and comes with packaging that safely stores the model when assembled. With a minimum radius of 18”, it's a great addition to your model railroad collection. The 70 Ton self-clearing hopper car was designed by the Car Construction Committee of the American Railroad Association (ARA) in 1926, sharing many features with the shorter 50 Ton car. Over ten thousand were built for 7 different railroads between 1926 and 1930, many lasting into the 1960s and finding second - hand owners.



Using this Scaletrains 40’ 70 - Ton 4 - Bay Open Hopper Kit is a breeze. First, gather a Phillips screwdriver and some glue. Then, start assembling the parts according to the instructions. It won't take you long, just a few minutes. When using it on your model railroad, make sure the track is of Code 70, 83 or 100 rail as the hopper is designed to operate on these. The minimum radius for the track should be 18 inches. As for maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft brush to remove dust from the wheels, stirrup steps, and other detailed parts. If you notice any loose parts, use the glue to fix them. When not in use, store it in the provided packaging to keep it safe. Also, be careful when handling the plastic semi - scale Type E knuckle couplers to avoid breakage.
