Prototype and Background Info:
In the mid - 1970s, the per diem box car boom started. New, brightly colored box cars popped up quickly. Many were marked for short lines. FMC (Food Machinery Corporation) built many of these cars. The 50’ outside post, non - terminating end box car became the base for new per diem cars in the 1970s. The 50’ FMC cars had different door setups to fit each customer. You can still see these models in modern railroading.
Specifications

Using this Athearn boxcar is easy. It comes fully assembled, so you can place it right on your track. Just make sure the track has a minimum radius of 18 inches, as the wheels with RP25 contours work best on tracks of this curvature and all popular brands. The sliding double doors are positionable, allowing you to customize the look of your car. When it comes to maintenance, keep the metal wheels clean to ensure smooth operation. Avoid rough handling as the couplers and other detailed parts can be delicate. This product is recommended for users 14 years and older, so make sure younger users are supervised if they want to play with it.
