PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
In the 1960s, railroading was on the verge of significant development. The North American Car Corporation designed and built a 50’ outside post, insulated, plug door box car that was a glimpse into the future. Many railroads added this car to their roster, mostly purchased or leased by private shippers. The NACC cars had complex and colorful paint schemes. At the time of their construction, general leasing, billboard paint schemes, and modern freight handling techniques were still about a decade away.

Using this Athearn N Scale 50' Box Car is easy. Just connect it to your N - scale train track using the body - mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers. It's weighted for optimum performance, so it should run smoothly on your track with a minimum radius of 9 ¾”. When handling the car, be careful with the etched metal stirrup steps as they are delicate. For maintenance, you can use a soft, dry cloth to clean the body and wheels regularly. Keep the car in a dry place to prevent any rusting on the machined 33” metal wheels. If you want to display different road numbers, simply switch them as needed. And always make sure the Pullman Standard or Superior plug doors are properly closed when in use.
