This Rapido 28534 HO scale model represents the EMD E8 locomotive of the Southern Railway, specifically #2925R in the stunning Crescent Scheme with green, white, and gold colors. (Note: The picture might show a different road number.) The EMD E - 8 and its successor E - 9 were the iconic North American passenger locomotives from the 1950s to the 1970s. A total of 450 E8A and 46 E8B units were made, followed by 100 E9A and 44 E9B locos. They hauled passenger trains across the continent and later formed the core of Amtrak's early fleet. Many were used in commuter service before retirement, and now some are in museums and tourist railroads. What sets Rapido's E8 and E9 models apart? We did it right. Instead of guessing the nose, roof, and windshield contours like others, we 3D laser - scanned Union Pacific E8 #942 at the Southern California Railway Museum. Our engineers then traced the scan and scaled it down to HO scale. The Rapido Trains HO scale EMD E8A & E8B locomotives come with a host of great features. They have a 3D laser - scanned body shell, accurate nose and roof contours, seven different noses, three different back ends, two different sides (with or without lifting lug covers), three steam generator options, 36” or 48” fan or non - dynamic brake options, single - or dual - headlight configurations, freight or passenger pilots, three side grill styles, original porthole or rebuilt blanked sides, skirted or non - skirted fuel tanks, original square and sloped or Hyatt roller bearing journal boxes, a heavy die - cast chassis, a smooth - running drive system with all wheels powered, complete lighting effects, and numerous road - specific detail parts in plastic and etched metal. Some of the road - specific detail parts include four sand filler hatch styles, PRR Train Phone antenna, Southern rooftop air tanks, Southern large - capacity water tanks, UP snow shields, cab - side walkways, pilot MU hoses, ATS shoes, PRR Nose lifting lugs, three radio antennas, six headlight/warning light inserts, various bug screens, mirrors, wind deflectors, numerous grab iron configurations, and several brass horn styles.

Using this Rapido HO scale EMD E8 locomotive model is a breeze. Just place it on your HO scale train track and connect it to your power source. You'll immediately notice its smooth running drive system. When handling the model, be gentle to avoid damaging the numerous delicate road - specific detail parts. Keep it away from sharp objects and rough surfaces. For maintenance, use a soft, dry cloth to clean the body shell and remove any dust. Don't use harsh chemicals as they might damage the paint or plastic parts. If you want to clean the wheels, use a mild soap and water solution, then dry them thoroughly. Store the model in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original box to protect it from dust and potential damage. Check the lighting system regularly to ensure all bulbs are working. If a bulb burns out, replace it with a suitable HO scale replacement bulb. Enjoy running your locomotive on your train layout and have fun customizing it with the different nose, back end, and side options available.
