Rapido presents the 23538 ALCO PA PB Set for Southern Pacific, numbered #6045 and 5924 in gray and red, with LokSound and DCC in HO scale. Note that the picture might show a different road number. The ALCo PA series locomotives are widely regarded as some of the most stylish diesel locomotives ever made. Built by a partnership of American Locomotive Company and General Electric from 1946 to 1953, they came in two models, the PA - 1 and later the PA - 2, powered by ALCo’s 16 - cylinder 244 diesel engine with 2,000 HP in the PA - 1 and 2,250 in the PA - 2. They aimed to compete with GM’s EMD E - units in the passenger locomotive market. Though they were stylish, they lacked reliability. Most were retired in the 1960s as passenger service declined. Fortunately, some units had a second life. Rapido’s HO scale model is the first mass - produced plastic one of the PA series with accurate contours and road - specific details, created using a 3 - D laser scan. It offers both PA - 1/PB - 1 and PA - 2/PB - 2 variants. The first run features correct nose and roof profiles, loads of roadname - specific details, A units and A - B sets, dynamic or non - dynamic brake versions, full underbody piping, separate grab irons and handrails, etched - metal grilles, lit number boards, headlights, class lights, control stands, and cab interior. It also includes pre - decorated etched side number panels for Rio Grande and an operating Gyralite or red Mars light where appropriate. It uses Rapido’s proven drive system and comes in DC/Silent (21 - pin DCC Ready) or DC/DCC/Sound options, available as single powered A - units or in A + B powered sets.

Using your Rapido HO scale ALCO PA PB set is easy. First, if you've chosen the DC/Silent option, you can connect it to a standard DC power supply. If you have the DC/DCC/Sound option, connect it to a DCC system for more advanced control and sound effects. When setting it on your track, make sure the rails are clean to ensure good electrical contact. As for running, start with a low speed and gradually increase it to avoid sudden jerks. For maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and pickups with a soft, dry cloth to keep the electrical conductivity. Check the body for any loose parts like grab irons or handrails and tighten them if needed. Store your locomotive in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and dust. If you plan to use it for a long time, make sure to give it short breaks to prevent overheating. Enjoy your model railway adventures with this great set!
