The Athearn ATH73730 is an HO scale model of the BNSF SD40-2 Rebuilt #7330, equipped with DCC and Sound. The BNSF SD40 locomotives from #7300 - #7339 were formerly from Canadian National and Grand Trunk Western. They were converted to 'SD40-2' standards by Alstom at Point St. Charles, PQ, and leased from Newcourt Capital USA for ten years, entering service between 9/01/99 and 10/12/99. In 1966, EMD introduced new locomotive models powered by the 645 diesel engine. The SD40 had 3,000 hp from a turbocharged V16, with many built for American, Canadian, and Mexican railroads. This model features LED lighting, photo-etched stainless steel windshield wipers, and more. Sound-equipped models come with an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound and a single cube speaker for great sound quality.

Using this Athearn HO scale SD40-2 model is easy. First, make sure your track is clean and properly connected. Place the locomotive on the track and power it up. If it's a DCC - equipped model, you can use a DCC controller to operate it, adjusting speed and direction. For sound functions, use the appropriate buttons on your controller to activate engine, horn, and bell sounds. When storing the model, keep it in the interior plastic blister to protect it. Avoid dropping or rough handling the locomotive as it has delicate parts. To maintain it, periodically clean the wheels and electrical pickups with a soft, dry cloth. Check the couplers for any signs of wear and replace them if necessary. If you want to change the configuration of the DCC decoder, refer to the CV chart included in the box. And remember, the minimum radius for operation is 18 inches, but a 22 - inch radius is recommended for smoother running.
