PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:
In the 1960s, the North American Car Corporation designed and built a 50’ outside post, insulated, plug door box car. This car was a vision of future railroad developments. Many railroads rostered it, mostly bought or leased by private shippers. The NACC cars had complex and colorful paint schemes. At that time, general leasing, billboard paint schemes, and modern freight - handling techniques were still about a decade away.
Using this Athearn ATH3862 N Scale 50' Box Car is easy. Just place it on your N - scale track and connect it to other cars using the McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers. It's weighted for good performance, so it should run smoothly on tracks with a minimum radius of 9 ¾”. When handling the car, be gentle with the etched metal stirrup steps as they are delicate. For maintenance, keep the car clean. You can use a soft brush to remove dust from the body, underframe, and wheels. Check the couplers regularly to make sure they are working properly.
